If you want to fast without melting a motor, higher volts is the only way to go. Its why electric cars run such high voltage.

We wanted to make the very best Sur Ron battery possible for you. The build list is like a dream: Tenpower 50XG 21700 (234 cells used) cells. These are the very best and most illusive and expensive cells on the market. They are under ration from Molicel. Made with pure copper sheet connections. The Hybrid BMS is an ANT 550 BMS (250A/550A). The exoskeleton case is made from stainless steel 316.

Cells

There are 234 cells in this battery and they all have internal resistance. The more resistance, the more heat they produce, until they start to damage. The Tenpower 50XG 21700 is on of the worlds premier cells for low resistance for a high power density (Ah). So with this low resistance, they are able to supply enormous amounts of power without over heating.

Power

The Sur Ron Battery 96v 50Kw 4320Wh Lightening Tenpower 50XG 21700  as limited by the 550A (peak/burst) by the Ant 550 BMS. A genuine constant power of 24Kw (250A non stop).

Exoskeleton / Casing

We have upgraded the casing to marine grade 316 stainless steel, so absolutely no rust issues here! Super tough and powder coated inside and out.

Connectors

The main Sur Ron Battery to controller connectors we use are two QS8 connectors with 6 AWG going direct into the controller and a second smaller 8 AWG QS8 connector with a free high power loom that goes via the red trip.  We use two sets to share “parallel” the power. This reduces heat, transfers load more efficiently and keeps the connectors from overheating.

Domestic Electrics

With our replacement high power bike side loom, all your bike accessories are still powered. Some believe that not using the circuit breaker on the second fused loom, that goes direct to the controller, removes the safety of the circuit breaker. However, all our batteries have a full working BMS and the non circuit breaker loom is protected by the inline fuse we include. Any power shorts or irregular current and the BMS shuts down or the fuse blows.  This is much more sensitive and accurate than a mechanical breaker (you may note, for example that the Sur Ron Ultra Bee does not use a circuit breaker and relies on the BMS alone).

Your controller must be able to cope with a high voltage of 120v when the battery is fully charged. Earlier controller models may not work so please check with your supplier.

Fitting

Fit the high power cable we provide to directly replace the OEM cable that came with the bike. We supply the battery lid spacer and aluminium hinges. The second fused loom we supply, goes direct to the controller and piggy backs the first loom.

Connecting To Bike

When connecting the battery to the bike and to avoid a spark, turn the red trip switch on the bike to off. Connect the older original power cable and then turn the red trip to on. Then connect the new power leads. Removing the battery has no special order.

Battery Charging

First time charging is VERY important. Always connect the charger to the battery with the charger powered up at the mains first. This will stop a “Connection Spark”. The battery needs a “Balance Charge” on first charge. Please charge for 12 hours first time.  Always charge your battery in a safe place and never unsupervised.

IMPORTANT: You will not be able to use your standard DC to DC convertor. Your lights must be powered by the 12V supply from an aftermarket DC to DC convertor

This Battery will only work with controllers capable of 110V or higher.

Regen & High Power Set Ups

Running regen on high power set ups can cause damage to both the controller and your battery. The motor can give massive power spikes if the motor is quickly turned into a generator from wheel spin and re-engagement (wheelies, jumps, hitting pot holes hard etc.). The battery is designed to give high power and BMS mosfets struggle to suddenly have such a large reverse current fed into them.

We have seen well known third party controllers give damaging current as the controllers become unreliable under reverse polarity caused by their regen settings. “Motor Off” and thumb regen should be set low or better still turned off. If you are running extreme power like 20+ KW (250A, regen must be turned off. Failure to do so may invalidate your warranty.
