The Diablo 81.666V – Satanically Powerfull!!
More V. More RPM. More top speed. Less heat. Less field weakening. More gearing to play with!
Sur Ron Battery 81.4v 22s 4070Wh 50Ah Diablo Molicel P50B , we wanted to make the very best Sur Ron battery possible. The build list is a dream: Molicell P50b These are the very best and most illussive and expensive cells on the market – under ration from Molicell. Pure copper sheet connecttions. Hybrid ANT 550 BMS (220A/550A), Stainless steel 316 casing.
Ohms law sates V(volts) x A (amps) = W (watts). Electric motor spins so many times per volts. More volts more spins (RPM) more top speed. But here is the geeky and cool bit (literally). Amps create heat, so the less amps you use, the cooler stuff runs. Heat kills electrical components as the heat literally melts soldered contacts internally, insulation burns off and glues melt. When you increase voltage, you need less amps to get the same amount of power. For example as 72v battery running at 200 Amps gives 14400 watts. But if you use a 81.4 battery at 200 amps, you get 16200Watts!!! So if you want to run cooler then drop your amps back down to 176A and your still hitting the same power. With this battery yu can set your amps as high as your contoler can go. It will burst (for a short period) 45000watts (45Kw) but will maintain 18Kw.
Cells (there are 220 in this battery) all have internal resistance. The more resistance, the more heat they produce, until they start to damage. Th eMolicell P50b is claasd as the worlds premier cell for low reistance for a high power desity (Ah). So with this low resistance, they are able to supply enormous amounts of power without over heating.
This is a Sur Ron Battery 81.4v 22s 4070Wh 50Ah Diablo Molicel P50Bpower as limited by the 550A (peak/burst) by the Ant 550 BMS. A genuine constant power of 17.9Kw (220A non stop)
We then upgraded the casing from stainless steel 304 to marine grade 316 so absolutely no rust issues here! Super tough and powder coated inside and out.
The main Sur Ron Battery to controller connectors we use QS8 connector with 6 AWG gong direct to the contoller and a second smaller 8AWG with a free high power loom that goes via the red trip (we use the smaller cable on the second set so if you require, we can still use the OEM Supra D6 if prefferred) but we use two sets to share “parallel” the power. This reduces heat, transfers load more efficiently and keeps the connectors from overheating.
This means all your bike accessories are still powered. Some believe that not using the circuit breaker direct to the controller removes the safety of the circuit breaker. However all our batteries have a full working BMS. Any power shorts or irregular current and the BMS shuts down. Much more sensitive and accurate than a mechanical breaker (you may note that the Sur Ron Ultra Bee does not use a circuit breaker and relies on the BMS alone).
Fitting
The battery uses two sets of discharge cables. One to fit the original bikes connector (for Talaria we supply an adapter so it can also fit a Sur Ron too). The second goes to an additional cable that we provide that is fixed direct to the controller. This enables the power to be fed “In Parallel” increasing the electrical flow, reducing resistance and reducing harmful heat. It shares the power delivery and takes the strain away from the original loom. However these must be connected in a correct order (simple instructions supplied).
Torp do not like direct power to the controller (your second cable), so please just do not use the additional power cable. We do not like to remove these as often buyers transfer batteries to another bike.
Because of the extra Battery height (370MM), an aftermarket battery compartment lid will need to be fitted for Talaria bikes. Some customers have opted for the more simple method of removing the original lid and using a ratchet strap to hold in place. When connecting the battery to the bike and to avoid a spark, turn the red trip switch on the bike to off. Connect the older original power cable and then turn the red trip to on. Then connect the new power leads. Removing the battery has no special order.
Charging: First time charging is VERY important. Always connect the charger to the battery with the charger powered up from the mains. This will stop a “Connection Spark”. The battery needs a “Balance Charge” on first charge. Please charge for 12 hours first time.
Please note, Lithium batteries are considered hazardous and due care and attention should be taken. Although these cells are in wide use, and professionally manufactured in a purpose built factory; because of the power of the battery, we strongly recommend that precautions are taken. We do not recommend charging inside the family home and charging should be supervised. We take no responsibility for misuse. These batteries are thoroughly tested (full discharge and charge cycles at the manufacturing stage and also pre-delivery). These are not DIY or amateur built devices.
